The Commons at Calabasas
Calabasas, California

The Commons at Calabasas is a gently sloping retail village with at-grade access to shops, theaters, and restaurants. The design resembles a Tuscan hill town of the Umbria region in rural Italy renovated to be a retail resort of the highest quality. Its 37 tenants service three major retail categories: everyday needs, lifestyle/specialty shops, and entertainment. Tenants and design were carefully selected to fit within the community context.

Due to its quality, design, tenants, and architecture, The Commons at Calabasas has become a major focal point in both the community and the region. In addition to its excellent site attributes and location, it has established broad-based appeal in the area because of its attractive architecture, pedestrian-friendly layout, and high-quality finish. The project’s ambiance creates a timeless and charming atmosphere. Each building has a unique architectural feature that gives the impression that the project was built over time, much like an authentic village, and renovated with polished storefronts and urbane signage. It is a project that is truly the “center of town.”

Official Statement of Small-Scale Commercial/Hotel Award

With this upscale shopping center, a town center was created where none had existed before. The developer provided urban amenities that encourage shoppers and residents to make it a destination, thereby “seeding” the Park Centre area for further development as a commercial and civic center.
