The WĀV
Friday, September 10, 2010
9:00 am - 2:30 pm
The WĀV
35 W. Thompson Blvd., Ventura, CA 93001
Join us to discover Working Artists of Ventura, WĀV, a new model for urban neighborhoods that demonstrates the best practices in community development. The WĀV is a neighborhood that represents the vanguard of innovative, sustainable cultural facilities. It is a blending of the arts, environmentalism, community-driven development, live/work spaces, smart growth, small business development and affordable housing all together in one inspiring place.
Cities and communities struggle with the need to bring affordable housing solutions into their neighborhoods. Developers contend with the challenges and requirements to fulfill these needs while mitigating impact to their bottom line. Neighbors grapple with their compassion for the homeless and the needy, while conflicted with their own goals to create a higher quality of life for their families. All of these participants impact each other on a regular basis. The WĀV addresses each of these objectives creatively.
Come walk the site, meet the team and learn firsthand how different organizations can work together to create a unique development that supports the environment, is architecturally unique and provides solutions for the community that maintain its social, green and economic needs.
The WĀV was created by PLACE (a non-profit developer) and the City of Ventura, along with the community and other participants.
