Inner City & Urban Policy Committee

The Inner City and Urban Policy Committee provides opportunities to become involved in issues to revitalize the inner city, addressing retail, housing, entertainment, brownfields, office, and commercial development opportunities.

On March 21, 2001, this committee launched "Urban Marketplace," a conference and expo which exposed industry players not currently active in the inner city and urban core markets to the investment and development opportunities that exist in inner-city markets. At the same time, inner city and urban core players learn about best practices and lessons which can be adapted and/or applied to inner city and urban core markets.

"Urban Marketplace - Make a Deal, Make a Difference" presented a case study analysis of a successful inner city project, roundtable discussions, and a marketplace of 30 exhibitors sharing resources. Over 500 industry and community leaders attended.

"Urban Marketplace 2002" focused on mixed-use development, bringing housing, retail, and community services to the inner city.

"Urban Marketplace 2003" examined the challenges, solutions and opportunities inherent in office developments in urban Los Angeles.

"Urban Marketplace 2004" explored the revitalizing power of ethnic retail.

The theme of "Urban Marketplace 2005" was "matching capital, opportunities, and know how."

On November 17th, 2005, ULI Los Angeles received the "Panther Award", recognizing Urban Marketplace for it's "outstanding achievement in community reinvestment and empowerment."
