Participating with Heal the Bay's Adopt-A-Beach program

The Young Leaders Group will be participating in Heal the Bay’s Adopt-A-Beach program on August 9th, 2008 at Santa Monica Beach. The South side of Santa Monica Beach needs the most help and will be the targeted cleanup area. Help enhance the quality of our beaches by joining us on this two-hour event. We will conclude the cleanup with lunch, among other fun activities, in Santa Monica.

There are no registration fees for this event, however you must register for the event for insurance and provision needs required for the volunteer project.

Melodie Meyer will speak about ocean pollution and directions for the cleanup.

Overall guidelines

• Please wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting wet or a little sandy.
• Be prepared for foggy or sunny weather.

Other suggestions:

• Long pants that can be rolled up, or shorts for hot weather
•  one extra pair of pants
• Closed-toed shoes that can get wet or sandy
• For beach sites: water shoes or an old pair of tennis shoes
• For inland sites: galoshes or rubber boots are recommended.
• Sun protection: a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
• Drink plenty of liquids (juice, water)
• Drinks will be provided
• Bring a change of clothes in case you decide to join other volunteers for lunch and other fun activities in Santa Monica.

Parking:

We will have a limited number of parking passes. Carpooling is encouraged

Meet at Tower 18 near 2030 Barnard Way in Santa Monica  (Parking lot is at this site)
