YLG Case Study Recap

Redevelopment of the NoHo Arts District: From Art House to Penthouse

YLG Case Study Photos

On Wednesday, April 20, 2005, YLG hosted its semi-annual case study: Redevelopment of the NoHo Arts District: From Art House to Penthouse.  The event drew over 130 attendees to the historic El Portal Theater, where the group was presented an exceptional example of how public- private partnerships can cultivate social and economic value through fostering a vibrant community like the NoHo Arts District.

Tom LaBonge, Councilmember, 4th District, City of Los Angeles, gave introductory remarks, followed with an engaging dance performance by the Millennium Dance Complex.  The panel discussion on the burgeoning artist district of North Hollywood was moderated by Sandra Kulli, President, Kulli Marketing, and participant in ULI’s 2004 Advisory Services Panel Report on North Hollywood.  Eric Reuveni, Vice President of the Mid-Town North Hollywood Neighborhood Council, opened the panel by speaking about the community’s participation in developing the vibrant vision of the neighborhood.

Bill Mason, Senior Planner, Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles (CRA/LA), and Bob Fazio, Senior Planner, CRA/LA, gave an enlightening presentation on the rich history and recent growth of NoHo, highlighting the area’s diverse population, and artistic character that has grown over the years.  Craig Jones of JSM Construction (NoHo Towers) and Cliff Goldstein of J.H. Snyder (NoHo Commons) finished off the panel by describing their respective projects and the hurdles they had to overcome.  They also described their pre-development vision for the community, and projections for the future of the area.

Many thanks to Anya Baum and Clyde Wood for organizing and creating a truly outstanding event. And, special thanks to our sponsors: Genesis LA, Reed Smith Partners, JSM Construction, Architecture Convolution, The Bergman Companies, Coldwell Banker Commercial, and The DT Group.
