The Los Angeles River Project

April 14, 2004

Restoring, Revitalizing & Redeveloping a Vital Asset

Brought to you by ULI LA and AIA/LA Urban Design Committee

Decades of work and activism by many notable individuals and organizations has created substantial momentum to restore the LA River. Once thought of only as a backyard storm drain, the LA River now presents an opportunity to create a green-belt of open space, recreation and community centers, schools, housing, and mixed use development. What will it take to bring about cross-municipality and multi-agency cooperation to convert rail yards into front yards, concrete into wild life preserves, and low-valued land into jobs and empowerment zones? Learn how the restoration of the Los Angeles River could be LA's "Haussmann Plan".
