Southern California Real Estate Summit ReportJanuary 18, 2002 How can California sustain its economic growth, protect its environment, and maintain its quality of life? It's a question that California's political leaders, government officials, business leaders, developers and builders, academics, environmentalists, and citizens have long addressed. This question was explored in a recent one-day Southern California Real Estate Summit that brought together developers, builders, public officials, community leaders, environmentalists, and academics at the University of Southern California. The Summit was sponsored by the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate and ULI Los Angeles, a district council of the Urban Land Institute. The Summit presented smaller interactive workshops that addressed four key issues: entitlement reform, jobs/housing balance, water, and urban quality of life. This report is designed to share ideas and best practices from the Summit, to contribute to the thinking on growth issues in Southern California, to suggest solutions, and to provide the foundation for future collaboration on the issues.
