1000 Homes

1000 Homes is an initiative focused on helping to end chronic homelessness in LA County. Spearheaded by ULI Los Angeles, 1000 Homes includes partnerships with several prominent organizations working jointly with ULI LA to achieve this important goal. Supported by a Community Action Grant from the ULI Foundation, 1000 Homes represents a long-term commitment by the ULI Los Angeles District Council to remain engaged in this complex and multi-faceted issue and provide leadership in a form that is contributive to the cause of ending homelessness. The involvement of the private sector in the battle to end chronic homelessness is critical in order to develop solutions that are effective, practical, and attainable.

The Need

Simply stated, our region has the largest population of chronically homeless individuals in the nation and an inadequate supply of permanent supportive housing units to serve this population. Permanent supportive housing has proven successful in addressing chronic homelessness and our goal is to serve as a catalyst for increased levels of development of this housing option in our region.

Our Strategy

To achieve this goal and make a positive impact, we intend to:

  • Serve as a resource to the permanent supportive housing development community.
  • Explore new models of permanent supportive housing development for our region.
  • Advance the discussion about homelessness in terms of its obstructive relationship to ULI’s vision for our region.
